Eat Like A Local | FORBES | DECEMBER 2019

Eat Like A Local is a series by @HungryEditor profiling people on their eating habits—everything from their favorite restaurants and bars to where they grocery shop, and sometimes even their go-to takeout order.

Laurie Haspel Aronson is the President and CEO of Haspel, which is known as the “originator of the seersucker suit.” Aronson is the great-granddaughter of Joseph Haspel, Sr, who founded the menswear brand in 1909, and is ushering Haspel into a new era. While seersucker will always be a part of the company’s DNA, Aronson is helping to expend that brand recognition for all seasons of the year.

Benjamin Liong Setiawan: What key steps led you to where you are today?

Laurie Haspel Aronson: I am a high energy, positive person who thrives on entertaining, staying busy, and mixing in a little chaos. My favorite thing to do is travel, whether it's for business or pleasure. Some of my best trips are when I stow away with my two girls and head off to a fun destination!

In 2002, I became President of Haspel. I had worked in the business since our family bought it back nearly 10 years prior. I told my father that I needed to learn anything and everything about our family businesses. I realized that I wanted to take Haspel to a new level. I knew the business had much more untapped potential in the global market.

What I love the most about Haspel is the branding and messaging through marketing and PR. Naturally, my Haspel grandparents were the inspiration for the lifestyle and the attitude that our brand conveys. They had parties all the time and I wish I could go back and attend one of them! I always wanted to have an energetic life like theirs, especially when it comes to entertaining.
